Providing the Quality Legal Services You Require
Firm Resume:
The law firm of Kelley, Scritsmier & Byrne, P.C., is engaged in the general civil practice of law
with special emphasis on individual and business planning, as well as all types of civil litigation.
Our firm presently consists of seven attorneys in active practice, two attorneys of counsel, and
one retired attorney. The primary legal services provided by our attorneys include: estate
planning and probate; business entity planning and federal tax planning; commercial litigation
and bankruptcy; real estate; environmental consultation; administrative proceedings and
litigation; general litigation; commercial law (including representation of debtors and creditors
in agricultural workouts); school law; and employment law (including all types of discrimination
claims).
We have attempted to develop expertise and competence in those areas of law in which the
majority of our clients in this geographical area have legal needs. This diversification has been
achieved through a team approach to the practice of law. We recognize that the problems of
today's society are too complex to allow each attorney to adequately serve all client needs while
yet retaining the highest competence. To solve this problem, our attorneys restrict their
practice to a few areas of the law. In many instances, several attorneys in the firm will practice
in a particular legal area as members of a team. Members of the team are then able to review
each other's work and review and discuss current changes in their area of the law.
This team approach is also applied to the staff who assist the attorneys in providing legal
services. The legal assistants restrict their area of work to a few subject matter areas. Other
members of the staff focus their work on such areas as bookkeeping, data processing and word
processing.
To provide high quality work in all of these areas, the firm has made a commitment to
continuing legal education. This includes not only attendance of our attorneys at state and
national seminars, but also has emphasized speaking at seminars to other attorneys,
accountants, school administrators and insurance agents with regard to the law in these areas of
practice. Our attorneys believe that a greater understanding of the law can be achieved in
trying to relate its intricacies to others. While most attorneys in the firm make these
presentations on a local, statewide or multi-state basis, Donald Kelley speaks regularly on a
nationwide basis in the area of estate planning, as is reflected in his biographical sketch. His
many years of speaking on the subject have culminated in co-authorship of the books entitled
"Estate Planning for Farmers and Ranchers" and "Family Business Organizations", published
originally by Shepherds McGraw/Hill and currently by Thomson/West. Burnell Steinmeyer, Jr.,
and Todd Turner are Mr. Kelley’s co-authors on these books.
While this resume is intended to be informative, it is certainly not exhaustive. Therefore, we
would encourage you to contact any of our attorneys with regard to any questions you may
have.
